The Beauty Society
Wycombe to Bourne End railway

The High Wycombe Society is campaigning to re-open the rail link between Wycombe and Bourne End - and we think it's a really brilliant idea.

The line was closed around 35 years ago, but the drive to re-open it has come to light again recently following a planning application by Henry Homes to build new homes on the route of the old track at Wycombe Lane, Wooburn Green.

If the development goes ahead it will almost certainly mean the end of any chance or renewing the old rail link.

Bucks County Council appears to have abandoned any support for the rail link, although the Bucks Free Press reports that more than 25,000 commuters travel across the London radial links as opposed to less than half that number commuting to London.

We understand that a number of obstructions to the original rail bed have been introduced over the years, but that feasibility studies by the High Wycombe Society show that the link could still be renewed at a realistic price.

We feel that in the light of pollution and traffic congestion it is only right that every effort should be made to re-open this link, and that many people in Wycombe and Bourne End and Maidenhead will feel the same.

You can add your support to this campaign here at yourwycombe.co.uk, or with the High Wycombe Society or through the Marlow Maidenhead Passengers' Association.
